Shivoo was born out of a maddening truth: developmentally disabled individuals thrive when they have strong care partners — but many families can’t find any staff to hire. As professionals working in special-needs services, we observed this heartbreaking shortfall everyday. It inspired us to build Shivoo, a hiring platform for our community, connecting developmentally disabled clients with dedicated care partners.

Do you limit the number of caregivers I can contact or interview?
No, there is no limit.
Is a subscription to your service an eligible expense for reimbursement?
Yes. Individuals who qualify for Medicaid services can ask their agency about approved staff-recruitment expenses.
Which special needs are supported by your caregivers?
Our directory includes staff who can provide direct support to individuals with a range of intellectual and developmental disabilities such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, Prader-Willi syndrome and other neurological impairments.

For the Criminal Background Check, the New York State Justice Center reviews the applicant’s criminal history and makes an initial determination on whether the applicant can be considered for hire for the position. Additional information here.

Central Registry Database & M.H.L. Checks

The Statewide Central Registry Database Check looks for histories of child abuse and maltreatment.
(MHL) Mental Hygiene Law 16.34 is a search of records provided by previous employers in New York State’s OPWDD service system of substantiated allegations of abuse and serious neglect by a prospective employee or volunteer.
These checks are mandated by New York State and carried out by the employer’s fiscal intermediary agency. This service is included for no additional charge by the agency.
